Breast Lift
How is a breast lift surgery performed?
A breast lift, also known as mastopexy, is a surgical procedure performed to reshape and lift sagging breasts. The surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia and usually takes about two to three hours to complete and involves the following steps:
1. Anesthesia: The patient is given anesthesia to ensure they are comfortable and pain-free during the procedure.
2. Incisions: The surgeon makes incisions on the breasts in a predetermined pattern. The type of incision made will depend on the patient's breast size, shape, and degree of sagging. The most common incisions used are around the areola, vertically down from the areola to the breast crease, and horizontally along the breast crease.
3. Reshaping the breast tissue: After making the incisions, the surgeon will lift and reshape the breast tissue to create a more youthful and lifted appearance.
4. Repositioning the nipples and areolas: If the nipples and areolas have become stretched or have drooped downward, the surgeon will reposition them to a higher, more natural-looking location.
5. Removing excess skin: Any excess skin is removed, and the remaining skin is tightened to create a firmer, more youthful appearance.
6. Closing the incisions: The incisions are closed with sutures, and the breasts are bandaged to protect the incision sites.
The procedure usually takes about two to three hours to complete, and patients can expect to experience some discomfort, swelling, and bruising in the days following the surgery. The recovery period typically takes a few weeks, during which time patients will need to avoid strenuous activities and wear a supportive bra to help with the healing process.
What are the benefits of breast lift surgery?
Here are some of the benefits of breast lift surgery:
1. Restores breast shape: Breast lift surgery can restore a more youthful shape to breasts that have become saggy or droopy due to aging, weight loss, or pregnancy.
2. Improves breast symmetry: In some cases, breast lift surgery can also help to improve the symmetry of the breasts, making them more proportionate and balanced.
3. Increases self-confidence: By improving the appearance of the breasts, breast lift surgery can help to boost self-confidence and improve body image.
4. Enhances clothing options: After breast lift surgery, many women find that they can wear a wider variety of clothing styles that they may have felt self-conscious about before the procedure.
5. Improves physical comfort: Women with sagging or drooping breasts may experience physical discomforts, such as back or neck pain, due to the weight of their breasts. Breast lift surgery can help to alleviate these symptoms by reducing the weight and strain on the chest and upper back.
